Parlaci dei tuoi studi e del tuo percorso professionale.
Ho sempre saputo che volevo essere un creativo. Ho studiato arte e dopo essermi laureato alla scuola di moda Studio Berçot di Parigi, ho lavorato per il giornale Rebel e sono diventato stylist nel settore moda e accessori di Thierry Mugler.
Quando è nato il tuo marchio?
Ho lanciato ufficialmente il mio marchio dopo aver lasciato Thierry Mugler nel 2008. Ma già da tempo vendevo alcuni capi e accessori a qualche negozio parigino.
Quanto sono importanti i tuoi viaggi e il paese in cui vivi attualmente?
Voglio usare tessuti rari per conferire esclusività ai miei prodotti. Per questo durante i miei viaggi in Polinesia, New York, Bali, Africa o Mayotte, compro sempre qualche tessuto che poi utilizzo per i miei papillon. E Parigi è una città bellissima, piena di storia, mi aiuta molto.
Perchè bisognerebbe indossare dei papillon?
Chi indossa i papillon è spesso indipendente nel modo di esprimere il suo stile. Direi che è anticonformista. E’ una scelta personale, una sorta di attitudine ribelle, espressa in una forma ancora elegante.
I tuoi papillon sono fatti a mano? E quanto conta l'artigianato nel sistema moda di oggi?
Tutti i miei papillon sono fatti a mano nei miei atelier a Parigi. E’ un aspetto veramente importante per me, che comporta molta fatica e duro lavoro, ma preferisco questa strada perché voglio essere sicuro che ci sia la qualità. Voglio che i miei prodotti siano autentici. E sono contento che la perizia artigianale stia tornando in auge nel moderno mondo della moda. Pensate all’ultima sfilata di Dior: i direttori artistici superstar escono di scena (John Galliano, direttore artistico della maison Dior, è stato licenziato per dichiarazioni antisemite e lo show è stato concluso dal prezioso gruppo di lavoro di sarte e addetti ai lavori - ndr) e finalmente diamo il benvenuto alle “petit mains”(piccole mani - ndr), al savoir-faire, alle persone appassionate che vivono nell’anonimato e spendono ore cucendo vestiti con amore e umiltà.
L'arte può essere considerata una forma d'arte?
Penso che la moda rimanga un business ma allo stesso tempo è il miglior modo per diffondere ad un pubblico più vasto una visione artistica che solitamente resta reclusa e isolata nelle gallerie d’arte.

L’opposto di snob. Le persone snob sono false. Essere nobili significa avere modi e attitudine eleganti, essere rispettosi, cortesi, educati e veri.

What did you study? And which has been your professional career?
I always knew I wanted to be creative. I studied Art and then I went to a fashion school. After graduating from the fashion school Studio Berçot in Paris, I worked at Rebel magazine and then became a stylist for Thierry Mugler fashion and accessories department.

I launched my own brand when I left Thierry Mugler in 2008. But before that, I have already been making some clothes and accessories under my own name and sold them to stores in Paris.
How important are your travels and homeland for your creative process?
I want to use rare fabrics to give exclusivity to my products. That is why I buy some fabrics that I use on my bowties during my travels whether it is in New York, Bali, Africa, Mayotte or Polynesia. Paris is a great city, beautiful and full of history. It helps me a lot.
Why should people wear bow ties?
People who wear bowties are often very independent in the way they express their style. I would say they are anticonformists. It is a personal choice and a kind of rebel attitude but yet in a very elegant way.
Are all your bow ties hand made? And is the craftsmanship important in modern fashion system?
All my bow ties are hand made in my atelier in Paris. That is very important to me. It is a lot of work but I prefer to keep it this way because I want to maintain the quality. I want my products to be honest. Craftsmanship is coming back in the modern fashion system and I'm glad about it. Have a look at the latest final of Dior fashion shows: the superstar artistic directors exit and we welcome back the "petite mains", the "savoir-faire", the anonymous passionate people who spend hours sewing the clothes with love and humility.
Is fashion a form of art?
I think fashion remains a business but at the same time it is the best way to spread an artistic vision that is usually secluded in the art galleries world.
