Tween Fall/Winter 2011-12 - Pitti Uomo 79

The success of cult TV series such as Man vs. Wild with Bear Grylls or Lost with Matthew Fox signals the end of an era. The metrosexual is a doomed trend. And while men are learning how to get their hands dirty, Tween designer Gunes Guner Işık renders this ongoing change. “Exploration, functionality, comfort and freedom are the key points of my fall-winter 2011-12 collection, because men are not so much interested into chichi looks anymore”, she explained us during the last edition of Pitti Uomo. “We started with some basic elements of menswear and we made them even more practical. The trench becomes a backpack, overalls instead a duffel bag. The jogging leggings can be worn with a formal blazer and a vintage style becomes a techno look”.
The potentiality of the high-performing sportswear together with top quality. Because the city is a continuous challenge. Men, it’s time for action!

Haversack Fall/Winter 2011-12 - Pitti Uomo 79

Why does a photograph of a man of the 40’s fascinate us so much? And why do we look dressed for a masquerade, when we try to get into his shoes?
The first answer is that the beauty is timeless. The second one could be that the vintage look is a backward-looking and grotesque mask, if out of context and without the habits related to a specific period. If you want to live in the style of another era and you don’t want to look like an actor or an old man who smells of mothballs, you have to mix the elements with taste, adapting shapes and fabrics to present point of view. The Japanese brand Haversack does it very well, re-suggesting the past in a coloured and funny patchwork with a punk effervescence, without forgetting the tailoring. For the next autumn-winter collection, the main background is the male sportswear and the military uniforms of thirty years of fashion, from the 20’s to the 40’s. The clothes are updated and functional as a classical symphony with a new arrangement.

Serdar Uzuntas Fall/Winter 2011-12 - Pitti Uomo 79

Serdar Uzuntas

A new star rises in the east. His name is Serdar Uzuntas. He is a young designer who is helping to enrich a formidable creative constellation in the Turkish firmament, with Umit Benan, Hussein Chalayan and Erkan Çoruh. The attention that these protagonists are gaining in the fashion world is not the result of eighteenth-century exoticism, a mere love for the new, but a real value that you can't avoid to appreciate.
Uzuntas works on the primary elements of menswear, as a student called from a demanding tutor to perform an original variation on a theme. The final product is that one of a craftsman, whose purpose is to enhance the limpid purity of a raw stone through cutting and harmony. Virtues of his collection are the particular combinations of textiles, such as nylon and wool, the rigor of military clothing and the liveliness of Notthing Hill, which is the London area where Uzuntas lives and works, whose streets named each garment. The fabrics are chosen in Italy and produced in his homeland. For an imagination without limits.
